FAQ

Where is sftpd based?

The company sftpd is registered and operates in Switzerland. Data is hosted and stored in Germany and never transferred outside of the EU.

Is my traffic and data encrypted?

Traffic is encrypted because it goes over an SSH connection. However, data is not encrypted at rest, so you should encrypt any data you upload (using e.g., rclone crypt or restic).

Can I have multiple users or SSH keys?

Sub-users are not currently supported. While you can still upload multiple SSH public keys, they will all point to the same working directory.

How is storage calculated?

Your storage is measured once an hour. Each measurement is multiplied by an hourly rate, and these charges are added together at the end of the month. The hourly rate is adjusted slightly based on the month's length so that the total always equals $6 per TB per month.

Do you keep backups of my data?

Your data is replicated across multiple disks in a RAID-Z3 configuration, rendering data loss unlikely. Nevertheless, you should maintain independent backups.

What happens if I stop paying?

If an invoice remains unpaid after one month, your account will be locked. After a further month, your data will be deleted.
